Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) is pleased to announce that Richard Zollinger has been selected as the new Vice President for Learning. In that role, he will oversee the College’s curriculum, continuing education and Library Services.

“Richard is an exceptional leader, educator and visionary,” said Dr. Tony Zeiss, president of CPCC. “I’m excited to have a person of Richard’s caliber joining the College’s senior leadership team as CPCC strives to serve the local community as a resource in workforce development.”

A native of Switzerland, Zollinger first became affiliated with CPCC as an English as a Second Language (ESL) student in 1981. As a result of his experience at CPCC, he developed a passion for the institution and later joined the College’s faculty as an instructor in its International Business Program.

Today, Zollinger is celebrating 19 years with CPCC. During his tenure, he has held several positions of increasing responsibility, including Program Director for the International Business Program, Associate Dean of Evening Campus & Special Programs and Dean of the Levine Campus.

He was promoted to Associate Vice President for Learning in 2000, and was later named Interim Vice President for Learning in July 2008. During the past eight years, he has led a variety of initiatives that have resulted in the creation of 15 new programs and approximately 20 new certificates; three new career academies that include criminal justice, construction and automotive curriculums; and a 2007-2012 Strategic Learning Plan that is currently being used as the foundation for the College’s Facilities Master Plan.

Zollinger graduated from East Carolina University in 1985 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. He earned a master’s degree in industrial-organizational psychology from his alma mater in 1988. He also holds a diploma in international business and economics from the University of Commerce in Zurich, Switzerland. In addition, he has completed the course work for his doctorate in community college administration.

An active member of the Charlotte community, Zollinger serves as an active board member at Charlotte Southpark Rotary, and is a member of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce, North Carolina World Trade Association and Charlotte Community Relations Committee.

Central Piedmont Community College is the largest community college in North Carolina, offering 100 degree and certification programs, customized corporate training, market-focused continuing education, and special interest classes. CPCC is academically, financially and geographically accessible to all citizens of Mecklenburg County. In 2002, the National Alliance of Business named CPCC the Community College of the Year for its response to the workforce and technology needs of local employers and job seekers through innovative educational and training strategies.
