New Aging Studies Certificate at CPCC Addresses Growing Population

by HJP9958E last modified 2008-07-01 13:19
The number of older Americans is unprecedented. Over the next 30 years, the number of Americans over the age of 65 - and the proportion of those individuals older than 85 - is expected to double. Many of those individuals will require a variety of long term care services.

“Preparing the workforce and volunteers to serve those needs is critical,” states Ruth Huey, Director of the Lifelong Learning Institute at Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC).
For those currently practicing in the field of aging, this certificate will provide continuing education units (CEUs) while providing proven strategies, best practices, and trends in aging.

If you are looking for a rewarding and creative career path in a growing field, the aging studies certificate at Central Piedmont Community College can help you get there,” says Huey. She says the one-week format is also a concentrated, effective way for practitioners to connect with others in the field and to learn the latest information while earning required CEUs.

The certificate program also provides individuals from the community who want to learn about aging issues an opportunity for a broad look at the critical issues. This certificate will provide them information that is essential for working or volunteering in the field of aging.

Topics covered in the Certificate include: trends in aging, successful activities, health and wellness, using volunteers effectively, handling grief and loss, understanding Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. The session at CPCC’s Harris Campus is Monday through Friday and meets 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The registration fee is $350.00 and includes lunch, parking and materials.
