G.I. Jobs magazine names CPCC a 2010 “Military Friendly School”
Honor ranks CPCC in the top 15 percent of all colleges, universities and trade schools in the nation
Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) has been named a 2010 “Military Friendly School” by G.I. Jobs magazine, the premier publication for military transitioners. CPCC was among 32 North Carolina higher education institutions to be honored by the magazine. CPCC served approximately 600 veterans during the 2008-2009 academic year. As a result of this accomplishment, CPCC will be listed in the publication’s upcoming “Guide to Military Friendly Schools” listing, scheduled to be published in September 2009.
“CPCC is committed to offering our men and women in uniform the educational, financial and administrative support they need to achieve their academic and professional goals. This recognition demonstrates that we are providing our veterans with exceptional services and that we are well prepared to handle an increase in the number of veterans we’ll see at the College,” said Dr. Tony Zeiss, president of CPCC.
The honor ranks CPCC in the top 15 percent of all colleges, universities and trade schools in the nation. G.I. Jobs magazine invited colleges and universities from across the U.S. to complete a survey detailing their strength in the following criteria areas: VA-approval of GI Bill benefits, CLEP acceptance, credit for military service, Reserve and Guard policies, access to flexible learning options, veteran programs, veteran student composition, and assets dedicated to recruiting military students. While more than 7,000 schools were surveyed, only 1,050 made the final list.
The “Military Friendly Schools” list is an extension of G.I. Jobs' “Military Friendly Employers” list and provides military and veteran students with a way to identify which schools offer them the most benefits. The list is shared with U.S. troops and is promoted throughout the year in G.I. Jobs magazine, Military Spouse magazine, Vetrepreneur magazine, on www.gijobs.com and www.milspouse.com; and in an annual poster distributed to military base education offices.
