last modified Feb 10, 2011 08:38 AM

WHAT: Central Piedmont Community College’s (CPCC) Global Issues forum, together with the World Affairs Council of Charlotte, will host Author Fredrik Stanton on the College’s Central Campus. Stanton will discuss his latest book titled, “Great Negotiations: Agreements that Changed the Modern World,” and the eight key episodes from history that best demonstrate modern diplomacy.

Event goers will look through Stanton’s unique lens as he shares a variety of events that have shaped the world in which we live and had an impact on history. These include the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962, the Treaty of Versailles after WWI, Reagan and Gorbachev laying the groundwork to eliminate an entire class of nuclear weapons and many more.

Whether you’re a history buff or a literary aficionado, Stanton’s presentation will remind you of the decisions that have made or broken our national history and demonstrate how the art of negotiation can change the world by establishing peace among nations.

Stanton is a John C. Whitehead Fellow of the Foreign Policy Association and has appeared on C-Span’s “Washington Journal” and “Voice of America.” He has been published in the WashingtonPost.com, Forbes.com Politico and the Boston Herald and is a former president and publisher of the Columbia Daily Spectator.
