College’s new classes will give students an overview of the sport, the responsibilities of a pit crew member

Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) is pleased to announce it will partner with Performance Instruction & Training (PIT), the motorsports industry’s leader in pit crew training and team building, to offer two new classes through the College’s Corporate & Continuing Education Motorsports Program – “Introduction to Motorsports Pit Crews” and “Pit Crew U.” The classes will be held at PIT’s award-winning facility in Mooresville, N.C., and will equip CPCC students with the technical skills needed to be a successful pit crew member in today’s motorsports industry.

"The partnership between PIT and CPCC provides students with a unique motorsports educational opportunity – the chance to receive instruction from the premier pit crew training school in the world today, combined with the expertise of the largest and best community college motorsports programs in the southeast,” said Bob Plott, director of recruiting for PIT. “CPCC has long been recognized as not only the largest community college in North Carolina, but also as one of the best in the nation. We are excited and honored to be part of their curriculum.”

The partnership will benefit both organizations; while CPCC’s CCE students participate in classes at PIT, CPCC’s curriculum and certification students will have the opportunity to perform paint and repair work on PIT’s race cars. As a result, CPCC students will gain invaluable fabrication experience and PIT will receive newly refurbished vehicles prepared by individuals aspiring to be future motorsports car engineers and fabricators.

“Students will learn a variety of industry skills, such as fabrication, pit stop equipment and pit crew choreography from two of the leading organizations in the field,” said Dave Bowen, an instructor in
Auto Body Repair and chair of the Motorsports/Auto Body program in the Transport Systems Technology Department at CPCC. “We’re pleased to have PIT on-board, helping us produce individuals who are well-rounded and prepared to enter successful careers in the motorsports industry and beyond.”

CPCC’s new classes begin in August at the College’s North Campus. To register or to learn more, please visit www.cpcc.edu/transport_systems or contact Dave Bowen at 704.330.4156 or dave.bowen@cpcc.edu.
