CPCC Names New Board of Trustees Member

Alisa McDonald was recently appointed to the Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) Board of Trustees. McDonald, who was appointed by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education to this position, serves as the Vice President of Project Development and Services for Duke Energy. In her current position, she is responsible for business planning, strategic process integration and system implementation supporting regulated generation, engineering and commercial power generation at Duke Energy.

McDonald has over 23 years of leadership experience in information technology, operational support services, supply chain and integrated marketing solutions. She began her career at IBM where she held key roles in systems engineering, project management, business solutions consulting and client services marketing. McDonald joined Duke Power in 1995 as manager of information security and business continuity. In 1999, she restructured and optimized several corporate shared services functions. In 2004, she led supply chain operations for Duke Energy’s fossil/hydro generation business, and in 2005, she was responsible for business process, operational planning and training for regulated fossil/hydro operations.

A native of High Point, North Carolina, she received a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematical and computer science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a master of business administration degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She is also a graduate of the Advanced Leadership Development Program of the McColl Executive Leadership Institute at Queens University. McDonald is a William C. Friday Fellow and alumna of the Wildacres Leadership Initiative, class of 2001-2003.

She is involved in a number of community and professional activities including service on the Board of the North Carolina School of Science and Math Foundation (Executive Committee), Duke Energy’s African American Network (AAN), Business Women’s Network (BWN) and Leadership Development Network (LDN). She also serves as a Board member and Chair of the Finance Committee for Partners in Out-of-School Time (POST), a non-profit organization committed to ensuring youth in Mecklenburg County have access to quality programs and activities. McDonald is a member of Women Executives in Charlotte (WE) and previously has been involved with Communities in Schools, Junior Achievement and Big Brothers Big Sisters. In addition, she served as Board Chair of United Family Services, the largest United Way agency in Central Carolinas. 

In 2006 McDonald was named a finalist for the Charlotte Business Woman of the Year and in 2007 she received the Top 25 Women in Business Achievement Award from the Charlotte Business Journal.
 
She and her husband “Mack” have two sons and one daughter.

CPCC is governed by its 13-member Board of Trustees. The President of the Student Government Association serves with trustees appointed by the Governor, the County Commission, and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education.

Central Piedmont Community College is the largest community college in North Carolina, offering 100 degree and certification programs, customized corporate training, market-focused continuing education, and special interest classes.
