Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) is now accepting applications for its 2009 Summer Study Abroad Program which will include Spanish immersion in Playa del Carmen, Mexico; French in Montréal, Canada; and German in Düsseldorf, Germany. These programs are a valued resource within the Queen City community, providing residents and students with exemplary international experiences that foster global understanding and personal growth.
Since 2001, the College’s students and faculty members, together with Charlotte community members, have participated in language immersion courses at in-country language centers. This year, the program returns to Solexico Learning Center in Solexico, Mexico, and begins a new partnership with the University of Quebec, Montréal and the Heinrich HeineUniversity in Germany. Each study abroad program is approximately two- to four-weeks long, and may be audited or counted towards academic credit.
Playa del Carmen, Mexico (May 31 – June 27), (June 13 – 27)

Combining academic learning with cultural learning, participants will receive five hours of Spanish instruction per day and journey to such historic locations as Chitzen Itza and colonial Mérida.
Montréal, Quebec (July 5 – 25)

Instructors at the University of Quebec, Montréal, will provide four hours of French instruction each day. Enjoy the city’s endless attractions, which include festivals, cafés, museums, gardens and historic landmarks.

Düsseldorf, Germany (May 31 – June 27)
Situated on the Rhine River and surrounded by nature, the city of Düsseldorf provides the perfect setting to brush up on the German language, boasting numerous street cafés, spacious parks and exclusive shops. During this four-week program, native instructors are prepared to lead participants in daily four-hour German lessons at the Institut für Kommunikation Internationale. The trip won’t be all work and no play. Attendees will also have the opportunity to travel to Cologne, Bonn, Amsterdam and Brussels. Feeling homesick? Don’t worry, Charlotte’s sister city – Krefeld – is only 30 minutes away.
