Alexandra Cousteau and her Expedition Blue Planet Team “roll in” to CPCC on Sept. 9
WHAT: The Center for Sustainability at Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) is pleased to partner with the Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation, Inc., to bring Alexandra Cousteau and her International Expedition Blue Planet Team to the Queen City for a special watershed action day event.
Ms. Cousteau and her film team will visit CPCC’s Central Campus as part of their cross-continent film and social media project with nationalgeographic.com. The team began its 138-day expedition across North America in June and is busy exploring critical water issues in Canada, Mexico and the U.S. in a custom-made biodiesel production bus. Throughout their journey Ms. Cousteau and her team will utilize satellite technology and live social media to bring the wonders of nature to audiences across the globe. The tour is being conducted in honor of her grandfather Jacques-Yves Cousteau’s 100th birthday and seeks to engage and educate the public on water crises occurring across the continent.
CPCC will host two separate events that will give local residents, CPCC students and environmental enthusiasts the opportunity to meet Ms. Cousteau and her team and learn more about the world’s water use and water systems. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions, engage in various multimedia activities and visit information tables featuring such local environmental organizations as Clean Air Carolina, Sustain Charlotte, The Sierra Club, The Carolina Raptor Center and many more.
